• Minimal need for sea water lubrication: Unlike flax, GFO doesn't swell or shrink, which helps control leakage and ensures your bilge stays dry and clean.

Packing Size and Compatibility:

• 3/16" packing is typically used for 1-1/8" shafts (found in many boats, including Nautiques before 2002, as well as other brands like Malibu).
• Exception for 1" shafts: Correct Craft boats made before 2002 used 3/16" packing, while 2002 Ski Nautiques (direct drive) switched to 1/4" packing.

Installation:

• The installation process is similar to traditional flax packing.
• How to determine size: Measure the inner diameter (I.D.) of the stuffing box and the outer diameter (O.D.) of the shaft to select the correct packing size.
• 1 foot of 3/16" packing generally provides 3 wraps for the rudder packing nut, though some cases may require 4 wraps. If in doubt, ordering 2 feet is recommended.

Additional Notes:

• Nautique Rudder Packing: For most Nautiques, 3/16" packing is used. One foot of packing typically covers 3 wraps in the rudder nut, but 4 wraps may sometimes be necessary.
• Alternative Packing: If you need Gore-Tex packing, options like GT-3/16 and GT-1/4 are available for specific applications.
